Dr. Kim specializes in Minimally
Invasive Spine Surgery for the comprehensive treatment of complex spinal
disorders.
Dr. Kim utilizes a broad range of treatment modalities to effectively treat
degenerative spinal disease (spinal stenosis, herniated disk, cervical
myelopathy, neck pain, back pain), adult spinal deformity (scoliosis, kyphosis),
osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (kyphoplasty, vertebroplasty),
traumatic injuries, spinal tumors, and spinal infections.
He is a nationally known expert in the field of computer-assisted minimally
invasive surgery using image guidance and navigation technologies to safely
and precisely employ minimally invasive techniques such as endoscopic diskectomy,
thoracoscopic reconstruction, minimally invasive fusion, percutaneous instrumentation,
kyphoplasty, vertebroplasty, MIS TLIF, XLIF, and total disk replacement.
He is the Executive Director of the Minimally Invasive Spine Society and
the head of the UCSD Spine Fellowship Program. He is a voting member of
the FDA Orthopedic Devices Panel which reviews all new spinal technologies.
As a distinguished faculty to numerous meetings on minimally invasive surgery,
he has trained spine specialists throughout the country on the safe and
effective application of the latest state-of-the-art minimally invasive
techniques.
He is a member in good standing of the North American Spine Society and
the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons with full certification
by the California Medical Board and the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons.
